Generaly, I am reluctant to listen to live albums. I find it unnecessary, in this hyper production, to review the filmed material which can rarely transfer true picture and atmosphere of the performance. The exceptions are my favorite bands. For few years now, French Monolithe, is in my first league, since the fantastic “Epsilon Aurigae” album. Later I’ve collected all their records, and the master piece “Nebula Septem” I’ve put on the first place of the publications in 2018 of Dotkom portal. I know I was right, because this is the album I will listen to for many times in the years to come.

The base of the new live album of the band Monolithe is exactly “Nebula Septem” from which four songs have been played, which are the back bone of the mentioned record. With shortened versions of “Ecumenopolisa” from “Zete Reticuli” and “Monolithe I” from the debut- that’s it. Fifty- three minutes of reminding myself why I adore Monolithe is little. I would also like to mention that even though the songs are long, they are not boring. Although they are aggressive (which doesn’t imply they are fast, because their style is basically doom) they are not, for one moment, tiresome. Even if I have some objections, they are negligible.  Perhaps the reaction of the audience could have been more emphasized, because this way we’ve got another version of studio recorded compositions with the courtesy aplauz between songs… But what kind of songs…

Classical, but phenomenal death/doom “Delta Scuti”, or my little to say, favorite “Engineering The Rip” which carries in its tune prog sound and which live brings the keyboard to the foreground. “Burst In The Event Horizon” is even slower and darker and takes the listener to the depths from which you can hardly return. By reminding the audience of their beginnings and by playing the part of their epic debut – “Monolithe I” the band is finishing their brilliant performance at Beltane Festival for which I can only regret I haven’t been to. But there will be a chance to be the host to, in my opinion, one of the best metal bands of today, which stands as a monolith, if not at the top, than very close to the top of todays pyramid of extreme music.
